Whittall said his goal is to open the Orlando Eye on New Year’s Eve of 2014. He’d also like to debut the aquarium and wax museum on the same day. The Orlando Eye brings along some serious bragging rights.
When it’s finished, it will be the tallest structure in Central Florida, at 425 feet. Compare that to Fun Spot’s two Sky Coasters, the two tallest of their kind in the world: the 300-foot Sky Coaster in Kissimmee, and the brand new, 250 tall Sky Coaster that just opened in Orlando in May.
The Orlando Eye will include 30 gondolas that sit 15 people each. A ride along the giant Ferris wheel will last 20 minutes. Oh, and it can withstand a Category-3 hurricane. But well before the first guests experience the attraction, several well-known restaurants could open up by the late first or early second quarter of next year, including
• Buffalo Wild Wings
• Seafood Republic
• Yard House
• Outback Steakhouse
• Carrabba’s Italian Grill.
